The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe portrays a man who makes his admission about a terrible homicide he submitted previously. The primary point in the poem is revenge. Revenge is rebuilding pride in the wake of enduring embarrassment and through eradicating disgrace. Retribution causes a person to feel that his nobility has been reestablished.
Introduction
Both characters pride leads to some sort of destructive action during the story. Pride is why a person is either careless or, if an individual’s pride is offended or addressed, can prompt counter or retribution against that individual. All through Edgar Allen Poe’s story “The Cask of Amontillado,” there is a basic theme of pride wherein Montressor’sfamily arms are utilized to foretell the vengeance that will be bestowed upon Fortunatolater on in Poe’s story, and Fortunato’s pride driving him directly into Montressor’s snare.
Each family has a one of a kind ensign. The crest comprises of a family peak and adage. Fortunato asks Montressor what his family arms are. He says, “An enormous human foot d’Or, in a purplish field blue; the foot smashes a snake uncontrolled whose teeth are embedded in the heel”(Poe 110). After he clarifies his family’s peak, Fortunato asks him what his family saying is. He answers with, “Nemo me impune lacessit” (Poe 110).
