REASONING AND ANALYSIS PAPER
a 2 pages (single space 1000 words) paper in which they use assigned materials and an example from popular culture to write about how conflicts arise in intercultural communication and how they can be resolved (or not).
Paper in a nutshell:
Use examples from your chosen video case study or film and two of the articles to support a thesis (opinion, idea) about how people use communication to (attempt to) overcome specific cultural differences. Additionally, you will use an example from pop culture (movies, TV, music, books, the latest fad, etc.) to support your thesis.

THIRD: You will develop either an example from popular culture to support your thesis statement.
A good paper will accomplish all of the following (although not necessarily in the order listed):
– Provide an introduction with a thesis statement, main idea paragraphs, and a conclusion (simplest structure would be just like your speech outline only this time you transform your outline into an essay)
– Use ONE detailed and substantial popular culture (movies, TV, music, books, the latest fad, etc.) example to support your thesis (opinion, idea)
– Follow MLA guidelines for format and citation. Use appropriate language (grammar, spelling, punctuation). Include a Works Cited list.
Here are some prompts to think about as you brainstorm what to write about:
What are some key challenges that communicators face in intercultural communication situations and what are some specific ways they can resolve them?
What are some specific ways that differences in one’s key cultural values (e.g. low versus high context culture, power distance, individualism versus collectivism) can create problems in intercultural communication situations? How can communicators successfully address these value differences?
How does the way we speak influence how others perceive us and how they communicate with us? Explain your position and provide evidence to support it.
Do you believe that one’s gender makes a difference in how one is perceived in the world, specifically how one communicates with others and is communicated with by others? Explain your position and provide evidence to support it.

How does the experience of first-generation immigrants impact their daily experience? Explain your position and provide evidence to support it.
What impact does socioeconomic status have on how one communicates with others? Explain your position and provide evidence to support it.
