Broward Community College Interpersonal Communication Discussion Response

Broward Community College Interpersonal Communication Discussion Response

Question Description

This was the question for the discussion!

Do you think you are a good communicator?

What have you taken from Chapter 1 that will be your first step towards a better understanding of communication that will help you become a better communicator?

Response # 1

This is a Discussion post from a student. All I need to do is to give a response base on this post. Use APA format

I believe that I am a good communicator. My current job forces me to meet new people everyday suffering from some type of crisis. During these encounters, you must gain a sense of how to communicate with different people. Not every person(or audience) will understand the same type of communication. After reading Chapter 1, I did not realize all the types of communication there are. I think that I do a lot of intrapersonal communication. The issue that I face is that while using Intrapersonal communication, I do not always turn all those thoughts in to words through interpersonal communication, Which could create a feeling that I am withholding thoughts or that I am not paying attention.

Response # 2

I believe I am not a well communicator, I get tongue ties, and can not say my words not too clearly. Because I am too shy and is nervous when I speak I tend to mess up on certain words, my thoughts go away, or I speak more then what I am suppose to. As soon as I leave an interview or a small group or anywhere that involve a party of more then 1 person, all my ideas and thoughts come right to me. Which I need to do better because I am pretty sure it causes me to lose a lot of job opportunities.

Face the speaker and maintain an eye contact with him or her. Keep an open mind and don’t make perceptions. Try to analyze what the speaker is trying to say. Ask questions for clarity, when the speaker has paused or stopped speaking. Respond fairly to the speaker. Clearly on page 14, under Interpersonal Communication, second paragraph sentence 8 to 9, it states that “you need conflict-management skills and listening skills, among others, to maintain positive relationships”. This section help me learn what I am doing wrong, what I need to improve on.
