Grand Canyon University Role of the Certified Nurse Midwife Discussion

Question Description

***Please comment this***

Do you have any opinions about maybe the most ethically difficult Advanced Practice RN role would be? After reading your response to the DQ, I surely would think that Nurse midwife would be especially ethically and morally difficult. Having to deal with still born and as you said having to terminate preganancies and when this would be ethically and morally Ok.

Initial Comment

Advanced Registered Nurses can have different roles; examples of these roles can be; Certified Nurse Midwife and Nurse Practitioner. Certified Nurse Midwife is registered nurses who specialize in childbirth and have the skills to perform several women’s health medical services (Raterink, 2016). These women’s health medical services include cognition and treatment of any gynecological disorders, such as infertility, infection, sexually transmitted diseases, and urogynecological disorders. There are ethical guidelines that these nurses have, and inclusion of this is acting without discrimination (Schirle & McCabe, 2016). The other role is Nurse practitioner; this type of registered nurse can provide comprehensive and improved patient care. Most of these nurse practitioners deal with population-based patient groups, such as family nurse practitioners or even psychiatric nurses. Similarly, these nurses have several ethical guidelines that they follow; this includes making sure that their patient’s medical histories are safe to enhance patient privacy.

In some cases, a certified nurse-midwife’s role may have to respond differently or as ethical guidelines suggest. An example is when the nurse has to advise a pregnant woman to terminate her pregnancy because of certain complications to save her life(Kaplan, 2018). This is against the ethical guidelines and a good idea, for it takes the life of someone to born yet to save another.
