Capture of Jerusalem by Saladin:
Analyze the Crusades as a whole, look at the big picture. What influence on the present day do the Crusades still have? How has the Crusades shaped the relationship between Muslims and Christians? Islam came from the West, like Judaism & Christianity, so what happened in World History to drive a wedge between Islam and the West?
The Black Death or Bubonic Plague wrecked havoc on Europe. In four short years nearly 1/3 of the European population (approximately 20 million people) died abruptly. This was a terrible and traumatic event which still haunts The Western World today (thinking ‘Ring Around The Rosey, for example). But many good benefits were soon witnessed. The biggest one was the collapse of the Feudal System, and in its place capitalism would slowly develop. Europeans began to question authority, both their Kings and the Pope for the first time, and this led to more science & pursuit of knowledge. The people who survived the plague also saw a slight increase in their standard of living, as there were less people alive. As people were freed from their feudal bonds, they migrated into the cities looking for work, which also helped the cities become more vibrant.
