.I accomplished my BSN over 10 years ago and been working in the hospital setting since. I have broad experience in several departments to include ER, ICU, PCU, and Med Surge. I am also enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve and have been serving a combined active duty and reserve total time of nearly 17 years. I do not really have a lot of extra time on my hands between work and school, but when I do I enjoy anything outdoors. I love the water, eating, and the gym.
I decided to start this FNP program because I always knew I didn’t want to just be a RN. I have been a leader in the armed services as well as my civilian job at the hospital for years now. Before time and money was always an issue. I had to tell myself now is the time and just do it. I was in the first class of this program with most of you and this is our second of a long journey. My future plans are still undetermined. I have always loved the critical care/emergency setting so I would have to say my future as a NP would hopefully include that area.
The concepts of theory, research, and practice are integrated together in several ways. Most researchers use theories and evidence based practice (EBP) to help guide the development of a particular study and also the explanation of results gathered. So in general, theories affect research.
In nursing the integration of theory, research and practice is important in healthcare because the combination helps improve patient outcomes. Many patient have questions and concerns for their provider and healthcare team. Those questions do not always have the right care/emergencyanswers. Not every physician knows every answer. Those questions turn into research questions and knowledge is built through theory development, which overall guides research to find the best reliable answer.
