Help me study for my Nursing class. I’m stuck and don’t understand.
For this paper you must cite and reference 2 sources. The paper should be 2–3 pages and written using current APA format. Your paper should address the following:
a. How would you prepare for the following situation? (provide realistic examples and details for safety and survival)
(Scenario) At this moment, you are sitting at home working on your WCU class. Suddenly, the National Weather Bureau sends an alert across your cell phone—a tornado is headed your way. You have 15 minutes before touchdown in your neighborhood. What is your plan? This is a ‘shelter in place’ scenario, you cannot outrun the tornado. Identify a safe place in your home to take shelter.
You must include research. Cite and reference two sources and explain the recommended safety measures in a tornado emergency and how you would apply them to your specific living arrangements.
b. How prepared are you in the event of a disaster? Describe your level of disaster preparedness using specific examples and references to your “go-bag” and preparedness checklist assignments.
Example: “I am more prepared for a water-related disaster than a fire-related disaster even though I live in a highly secluded, forested area. I have a boat as transportation in the event of flooding, but I do not have rain barrels or fire barrier supplies on hand.”
Example: “There were many missing items on my preparedness checklist. I realized that I do not own a flashlight. If I had to use my phone as a light it would drain the battery very quickly.
c. Reflect on how prepared you were before this class and compare it with how prepared you are now.
Have you acquired any new emergency items?
Do you plan to take any additional trainings or certification courses?
Have you shared your knowledge with friends and family?
A discussion of the items in your home go bag – what is present and what is missing.

A brief explanation of the demographic considerations and potential disaster hazards in your area and why you included certain items.
Some of the demographic considerations that we would need to consider is the canal that is located by our cul-de-sac because it can cause flooding. Besides the canal, I do not feel there are any other demographic considerations. As I mentioned before, I do live in Florida which is prone to hurricanes every year. So, although natural disasters aren’t a for sure thing each year we are prepared. In my family’s case we would stay within our home during a hurricane or for any other natural disaster that would occur. Due to the hurricane seasons that happen on a yearly basis these items are usually required, water is an essential along with canned goods, the batteries are needed because most of the time the first thing to go during a hurricane is the electricity, many people have generators which is an investment that we need to make. Also, my vehicle is a Jeep wrangler which helps in cases of driving through debris and is a means of transportation including four five-gallon tanks of gasoline which normally are filled.
Your family, pets, and living situation considerations and why you included certain items.
My family consists of my husband, our baby girl, Aria, and two cats, Patches and Boo. Out of all of us I use an inhaler which I have packed within our bag along with over the counter medications such as Tylenol, baby Tylenol, ibuprofen, and zyrtec. As for the cats, they have enough dry food, but I would look to find the closest shelters where they can attend or I can place them in their cat carriers till further notice.
Are you prepared to help others in your community in the event of a disaster?
I feel that in case of any disaster besides hurricanes my family would be ready because not only are we prepared with items but my husband is a medically retired purple heart from the marines who served in Afghanistan and served as a corpsman and with my medical background with the knowledge I have obtained in nursing school, the both of us combined would be able to survive and manage anything that we are faced with along with helping others. We are not only a family, but a team and we have the moral that no one should be left standing alone, but one thing for sure is that we will take of each other and our daughter first before helping others.
