What do theads tell us about how leading politicians think, or at least thought, ofthe de facto relationship between electoral politics and the Americanpeople? No one denies that politicians have a first amendment right torun such ads, but do they also have attendant duties, even inadvertising, to which “we the people” should hold them responsible?
