The Research Paper Proposal is an exercise that prepares you to write the Research Paper, which is a formal assignment that we will begin after midterm. Basically, this proposal encourages you to think about the argument, or central claim that you would like to make in your paper (your thesis statement), and explore the approaches that you might take, the concerns that you will need to address, and additional research that you may need to complete. Please note that, at the top of the first worksheet, you are asked to provide your working title and your research question(s). A working title helps you to conceptualize the scope and focus of your work, but you will be permitted to change it when you complete your research paper. Though most students continue to pursue the research question that they selected at the beginning of the course, you may find that your question has changed slightly as you have researched your topic, and perhaps that your focus has also shifted slightly as well. This is actually a normal part of the research process, so its fine to list your new research question if this has occurred. Also, you may discover that there are sub-questions that you will need to answer in order to answer your main research question.
