Memos are meant to distribute information to members of a specific, internal audience. Imagine you are a head honcho here at WVU (pick your own title!) and pick one of the scenarios below and write a memo addressed to all WVU employees informing them of your decision.
- We will return to business as usual, regular, in-person classes in the fall;
- We will have hybrid classes in the fall, with large lecture classes online and social distancing in place;
- We will shift completely to online classes for the fall semester, with no return to campus; or
- Some other option?
Remember to include the important aspects of memos pointed out in the readings for the course: header; to, from, date, and subject lines; and with your content, potentially headings or paragraph breaks. Also content is important: what information does your audience need, and what does your audience need, and what information do they want? What questions or worries might they have? Be sure to proactively address these. Think of your ultimate goal with the memo: a confident and supportive workforce.
